In it's current form, the CCHGS started on April 1, 1974 and has been active in the county ever since then. At the present, we have a research library at 310 Oak Hill Circle in English, IN, and we operate the Proctor House in Marengo, IN. We serve the community and are supported via donations and book sales. We are a non-profit organization.
To collect and preserve the material of the local history of Crawford County Indiana; to secure and document the recollections of those who have helped build the County and its communities; to promote the study of Crawford County history; to mark historical sites; to stimulate public interest in the vital and historical facts of Crawford County’s
past and present.
The Crawford County Historical and Genealogical Society will have a fundraiser yardsale at the Proctor House (east of Marengo, 7037 IN-64) on Friday, 8am to 4pm, and Saturday, 8am to 1pm. The Proctor House will also be open for visitors on both days. Rain or shine!
